Today was a good day- poem

Today was a good day.
The sun shined
Hot through my window
Onto my thin layer of sheets
Right leg dangling over the edge of my bed
Ceiling fan working to spin fast
Blades wobbling periodically with a clunk clunk, clunk clunk
A vast inhale draws me out of sleep
Causing my eyes to flutter open
Allowing my left leg to kiss its counterpart
I am on my feet

Extending my arm out
I grab a clip
With jaws like an alligator
Twirling up my hair
And asking it to gnawl on my perfect bun
It does

Hearing my body crack
Muscles stretch into place
I find myself in the kitchen
A bowl of fruit placed on my counter
Displayed like an oasis of colors
As vibrant and diverse as a coral reef
I grab a handful

Moving to my deck
With a quick beat of frequency
I shoot music out of my speakers
Allowing myself to be swallowed in an Adirondack chair
I lie motionless in the sun

When I feel my skin start to bake
I hop to my feet and go inside
Snatching my keys off the table
I intertwine the laces of my sneakers
Spinning my tires out of the driveway
Picking up a friend and heading to Valley Forge
I drive

We sprint through the woods
Trying to synch our steps
Right foot, left foot, right foot
The sun goes down
My body starts to cool
When we reach the trickle of the stream
I stop, exausted

The sky is finally dark
Driving back my gaslight turns on
But I’m almost home
Pushing my door open,
I’m greeted by my mom
I say gasp a hello

My legs start to wobble
So I surrender myself to my weary mind
Slowly lowering my body into bed
I’ll fill up the tank tomorrow
I sleep
Clunk Clunk,

Clunk Clunk
