Call and Response-Sameer

1. New Slaves-Kanye West  
What Kanye West means by "new slaves" is that all black people want the same things (diamond chains, expensive clothes etc.). He is also saying there is negative racism so the lower classes and positive racism to the upper class.

2. 99 problems-Jay Z
Jay Z is talking to a cop and is rapping about DWB(driving while black) and how cops assume black men usually are carrying guns and drugs when the cop says "Are you carrying a weapon? I know a lot of you are."

3. Black Rage-Lauryn Hill
Lauryn Hill is talking about how the government is suppressing the black community. When she says "Black Rage is founded on two thirds a person." she is talking about when black people were counted as two thirds of a person instead of a whole.

4. Hell-Talib Kweli
Talib Kweli is mostly talking about social stereotypes especially when he says "they got us thinkin' that Muslims like to make bombs but actually Muslims live in paradise tryna avoid shaitan." 

5. True Blues-The Last Poets
The Last Poets are talking about the slave times and the struggles they went through for freedom.

6.  Mathematics-Mos Def
Mos Def is talking about how young kids these days dont know how to do math but can do other things like sell crack and play playstation.

7. I can-Nas
Nas is telling people not to hang out with the wrong crowds and you can be what you want to be as long as you work hard at it and believe you can be what you want to be.

  1. I completely agree with your stance on Jay-z's 99 problems and I really think it is a call for justice among the police system.
