I chose this piece of spoken word because I feel like it represents a meaningful piece of art to me, specifically. I could have easily gone with Wu Tang's "Cream," which hits the issues of racism and hip hop history that we read about today, but I don't feel the same connection with that song as I do with this. Neil Hilborn is a poetry performer with OCD, and this poem always strikes me with sadness, but also respect for his bravery as an artist. The little ticks and repetitions are intentional (at least the majority of them,) which I think makes the work more powerful and adds to the musicality of the work in a really strange and original way to convey the meaning of the piece.

  1. I really enjoyed this video and it's message. I also agree with your explanation. I think his bravery is compelling and really draws in the listener. As well, I never knew his repetition and ticks were intentional...but I agree it adds power and helps convey his message of love and OCD.
