This song inspires me lyrically because it tells how Kendrick Lamar got out of the ghetto by finding rap as an escape. In the first verse he's rapping as his friend and how Kendrick was there when his brother died and the chorus "When the lights turn off and it's my turn to settle down promise that you will sing about me." is Kendrick Lamar's friend saying if he dies soon to dedicate a song to him. This inspires me because Kendrick Lamar's friend is accepting the streets he lives in but knows that Kendrick Lamar will become a star.
