"Everything Is Everything" Song Review

The song off of Lauryn Hill's album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" that resonates with me the most is "Everything is Everything." I believe it's a song about young people going through tough times in life. However, Hill presents it in an "it is what it is" type of manner. Her lyrics seem hopeful and as if she is looking for change. I think this is most prevalent in her beginning lines, "Everything is everything. What is meant to be will be. After winter, must come spring. Change, it comes naturally." Though I believe the youth she talks about in the song are those that live in the ghetto or had a particularly hard upbringing, I also believe it is an excellent message for all young people. In addition, I think it may compare to her life growing up, or her experiences/things she has witnessed. I think that makes her a relatable artist that many would look up to for the words in this song. Also more simply, I enjoyed the musicality and beat of the song. It is soulful and almost ballad-like at sometimes, but also has that strong hip-hop influence like she is known for.
