In the song “To Zion” by Lauryn Hill she talks about the feelings she had while carrying her first son in the womb. During pregnancy when she “touched” her “belly overwhelmed”, she is uncertain if the baby is what she wants. When the angel came down to tell her it was certain she would be having a child she knew she had to give his life a chance. Her peers told her that having this baby would impact her negatively and to be smart. As bad as she wanted to focus on her career and use her head in this situation she knew what was right and she chose her heart over her head. In Lauryn’s second verse she has spent time with the “joy” of her world, “Zion”. She states that this is the most in love she has ever been with someone which portrays how strong love is within a family. I believe the lyrics to this song are awesome because it shows how an artist can look past the smart move for her “career” to something that she think it’s a message from God. I believe it is even more inspirational because she took the bet that having Zion would be a good idea and she was right and he became her joy and she is reminded “that a gift so great-Is only one God could create” every time she see’s his face.
